This past tuesday i had to call 911 to have a cousin taken from Church to the hospital after blacking out and having chest pains. I get there and was rudely informed upon my attempting to give the people my cousin's medical history which she keeps on her phone, that since i was not her husband all they would do is take her identification and totally ignored the phone with her medical issues and medicines listed.

Jump forwards to this past Thursday, i spend 23 hrs overnight  in a hospital with my cousin for same issues, and even though this place has her history on file they STILL got her medications, times to take them and warnings about what she can physically do wrong. Again once i tried to correct them politely for her safety i was brushed aside brusqley and told  to stay out of the way.. WTF is this world coming to and yet i am the one getting yelled at by family for getting fed up and wanting to put the rude orderly who handled my cousin roughly through the bloody wall.  Rant over, my apologies but i always felt it better to talk about my feelings rather than act upon them. Merry Christmas to all whom celebrate it, be safe and best wishes to you all.

I agree with Tammy. In a lot of cases, medical personnel don't have access to medications, allergies, and past medical history. It is certainly not right that your concerns were so easily brushed aside. Ask to speak with a supervisor on both counts (the other with the orderly, too). Medicine is supposed to be compassionate, and family is important to that process.

I have spoken to my cousin about the power of attorney, even offered to pay for it myself, so we will see if she will accept and go through with it. Thank you both for your kind words it is appreciated.

I don't know what is required by you, but in Georgia, you don't even have to have a lawyer do the POA. You just have to have two witnesses unrelated to you sign the paperwork. I can help you find out what's needed if you like!
