Many across Southeast Texas trying to get a glimpse of the winter weather Monday witnessed a rare weather phenomenon -- thunder sleet!

12News StormTracker Chief Meteorologist  was out checking weather conditions when he caught the thunder sleet on camera.

And he wasn't alone.

12News got reports across the Golden Triangle about the thunder sleet.

So what is it?

Thunder sleet is similar to thundersnow -- it's caused by an increase in elevated convective energy. All of this energy is called instability and is a lifting mechanism to produce lightning and thunder.

This is the same thing that happens during those spring and summer thunderstorms. But what makes thunder sleet (and snow) rare is that warm layer forms during cold weather events to create the rare sights and sounds!

*sending you good thoughts for your garden and offers up a prayer that your kumquat tree shrugs off the weather and lives on to produce enough kumquats people will be lining up blocks long to get them some.* Amen.

The weather hasn't affected me other than to double my workload. I've been working from daylight until dark six days a week with renovation and new construction projects, plus the weather related repairs and improvements. I don't like to work on Sundays, but I will load and deliver firewood because heating is critical. I believe the Lord will find it easier to forgive me for working on the Sabbath rather than letting someone freeze to death. "From them to whom much is given, much is expected."

I wanna say "Well Done" to the people that stepped up to helped friends and neighbors who suffered from lack of water due to the broken water pipes. Looking out for each other is one of God's great commandments. Good on y'all!
