I go to Hunt.

I go to Hunt.

In the language of my people, I am called Kilirniku, and it is accurate for in the Gorean tongue it means "Remnant of a Wound." Other people call me Qiliq; in their language, it means "a scar." In the Gorean tongue, I am called "Skar," among other things; none of which burn my ears.

I am a Hunter, of the Barrier Mountains. Long I have lived and hunted in these mountains though they are not my native lands. Where I am originally from, I cannot say; I do not recall now its name, but I remember its beauty and its horror.

Here, in this world, where I am now; there is also beauty and horror. If I had to give a name to the beauty of this world, I would call it "Vexa"; but her name was Melete and I knew her. As for the horror of this world; it is true that there are many; and one among them is me.

I am a Hunter; I hunt dangerous things, in dangerous places. Does this make me a dangerous creature? Yes, it does. I stand among them, life and death are the same to me. There is great beauty in my life; in its own way. There is also great horror in my life, because I stand among them.

It is who I am, it is what I do; it is all I know or understand. I am a Hunter.

Here, in this land; the thing of beauty for me, was Melete. She was once my mate; her eyes haunt me still. I called her Scrawny Fierce Woman; and it too was an accurate name. She knew me as Skar; it is my name, and it is what I am.

I spent a long summer in paradise with her; but I am a Hunter. I must Hunt. She was a Huntress of the Northern Forest. She was remarkable in many ways which I found desirable; I tried to claim her for myself, according to the customs of my people. I thought she understood them; I believed them to be a common practice. I am not sure that Melete fully understood my intentions for her, and I could not make myself force a collar upon her.

She was a beautiful woman, wild and free. I loved that spirit in her heart; but I did not fully understand her. During our mating season; and our life together I discovered more of who she was; and who I am. She is a Huntress of the Forest; I am a Hunter of the H'rimgar. We are the same in this way, she and I. I began to love this woman, and slowly to realize that I could not take her from her Home. This was where she belonged.

I could no more take her from the Forest than she could take me from the mountains. We are Hunter and Huntress, we must Hunt. It is who we are. She once brought home a wagon from a Hunt. I am convinced that she was trying to lure me into a life as a Trader. I cannot allow this to be. I am a Hunter; of Nakani, in H'rimgar. I must Hunt!

I went North, she remained behind. She will hate me; but I have gone. I cannot take Her from her Forest; for she will not leave it. She cannot keep me here; for I will not stay. I did not demand for her to follow me; it would not have been right for her.

I have gone; alone, to H'rimgar.

I must Hunt.
