Leaving her had been easy; making the decision to leave, that had been the hard part. For me, the final straw had been her damned bosk wagon. I will have no such a thing in my life; I cannot imagine such a thing as living along the road like some damned Trade Merchant! I am a Hunter. there are no roads in a life such as mine; only trails.
I had left her nothing to follow when I had begun the path I am on now;I had crossed the stream soon after leaving what I had begun to think of as our home. I did not enjoy pushing her away from my arms in the warm depth of our furs; but I did it. It had to be done; I had come to understand that I could not take the Huntress from her Forest. The Forest needed her as much as she needed it; and I certainly did not envy the life of a travelling Merchant with their bosk, and wagons, and wares.
I understood the fur trade, and trading posts; I understand trading and wagering. What I do not understand, is people; and I cannot abide them under my feet, unless they are dying.
I had skirted the shore of the stream, crossing it several times by wading in water as high as my balls. They let me know when my depth was sufficient to prevent the reading of a turned stone as a sign of my passing by, the cold running stream had told them so.
To my surprising satisfaction however, the runted sleen pup I had freed from its cage the night before was remarkably adept at following me. The animal seemed committed to following me. Was it hunting me? I realized then, two things; Melete had killed this animals parent, and this animal was going to grow large and strong, soon. Did it remember her? Was it leaving her area, because like me, it too had simply had enough of her moody shit? The bitch was crazy.
The Hunting Moons will arrive soon upon the polar ice; and I have far to go. Walking away from her was easy; and it was done intentionally, with great care taken to prevent being followed. I didn't want to be found, it was just that simple, I had excellent motivation, I was tired of her shit.
If I left now, I would have time to enjoy the Tundra in its Autumn before the snow and ice came. Across the Tundra for many long passangs I would travel before reaching the feet of H'rimgar. Leaving now worked for me; that's what made it easy. The woman was simply infuriating more often than pleasing. She annoyed me; and made life unpleasant. She collected a great many things; two of them being a bosk and wagon.
I simply wanted no more of it, and I wasn't having it. I do not think she understood her place; and for this reason, I would not take her. I was glad to be rid of her; she was a pain in the ass.
I walked FAR that day and through the night, with a young, Forest sleen following somewhere in the shadows around me as I made my way into the darkness toward the Tundra beyond the far flung edges of the Forest.
