OOC Observation on Gorean Roleplay

OOC Observation on Gorean Roleplay

I have to ask a question of those who are upset over Skar’s typist using the word rape in a story post. Have you actually read the Gor books?

The Gorean novels repeatedly address the realities of slavery, including the coercion, domination, sexual expectations, and conditioning imposed upon slaves. The power imbalance between a free person and a slave is woven into the very structure of Gorean society. These are not modern, consensual relationships by today’s standards, nor are the books shy about exploring the darker and more brutal aspects of that world.

You cannot pick up a series built around such a harsh social hierarchy, participate in roleplay based on that universe, and then act surprised when someone writes about the ugly realities that exist within it. The word rape does not become inappropriate simply because it makes a reader uncomfortable, particularly when the writer is describing an act of sexual violence rather than pretending it is something else.

There is a distinction between writing about something and condoning it. Fiction can explore brutality without the author or typist supporting that brutality in real life. And we should be able to discuss what happens in a fictional setting honestly, even when the subject is uncomfortable.

That does not mean anyone has to enjoy reading every scene, and everyone is entitled to their own boundaries. But there is a difference between choosing not to engage with content and declaring that the content has no place in the very universe we have chosen to roleplay.

So, genuinely, I have to ask: have you read the books and considered what Gorean slavery actually entails, or are you judging a story post solely by how uncomfortable its subject matter makes you?

So don’t read the Gor blogs, simple as that!

I'm not into sports, guess what I don't read books or blogs about. Sports.

Rape is mentioned dozens of times throughout the entire series of books. What I did is EXACTLY what would have been done BY the books. No offense intended but yeah kiss my ass, my version is true to the books in its depiction of enslaving a free woman by force.

While the subject is cringe worthy, it is part of this fictional life. I brushed on it briefly in "A Healers Fury" all my character can do is put them back together again

I do not believe anything I wrote was too graphic for a mature adult to process; especially not for fans of Gorean erotica.

Thank you Elizabeth

It is your canvass, you paint as you feel. Hell I want to help Melete with her branding scars, but its not for me to just burst in :)

Before I release anything in a public blog, I discuss it with my writing partner and we both agreed long ago to keep the heavy stuff private, and we do. My writings come to you heavily redacted already. I'm not here to write patty cake Gor for the masses, and I'm not going to.

Oh my goodness I needed that laugh Elizabeth, but Scar is right… nothing is done without the others consent. We are just dark individuals who umm yeah, you get the idea… Scar… go read my PM!

Ya know what, this is such a stupid argument that I'm going to start putting graphic content warnings on my writings just to mock you bunch of crybabies.

You write as you write, edited or no. You chose your world. Myself, I write the way I do as does Alex, with our strengths and our knowledge of "city folk" of Gor
