Yrsa

I am Yrsa, the daughter and only child of Hold Jarl Redbone who holds dominion over a coastal settlement in Torvaldsland where the Pass of Tancred meets the Artic Sea. Home is called Tancred Hold.

I was raised beneath the vast northern skies, where the land is unforgiving, the sea is restless, and survival depends upon skill, courage, and a keen understanding of the world around me. I learned to hunt in the forests and across the rugged wilderness, taking up my bow to provide food for my people, just as I learned to stand upon the deck of a longship and take my place among its crew.

Though my birth grants me a place within my father’s hold, I have never been content to know the world only from behind its walls. The forests, mountains, and cold waters of the north have shaped me as surely as my upbringing among hunters, warriors, and seafarers.

I carry the blood of Torvaldsland in my veins and take pride in the traditions of my people. I respect strength, loyalty, and those who prove their worth through deeds rather than boasts. I know the patience required to follow a trail, the satisfaction of a successful hunt, and the demands of working alongside others when the sea turns cruel and the winds threaten to drive a ship from its course. I have no need for a life of idle comforts when there is so much to learn and experience beyond the hold. Whether I walk beneath snow-laden trees with my bow in hand or feel the salt wind upon my face aboard a longship, I am where I belong, a daughter of the north.

My father, Jarl Redbone, has declared that he grows no younger and that the time has come for me to find a man to stand beside me as companion and mate. He has granted me three months to meet and choose a man of my own before he takes the matter into his hands and chooses one for me. Three months may seem a generous span of time to some, but I know how swiftly the hands pass when the winds favor a ship and the hunt is good.
