In Bianciella’s “Gorean Harshness” blog, Àirlia raised the suggestion:
“I wonder... if just maybe... all of us Goreans who want to enjoy realistic Gorean Roleplay, harshness and all could agree to just for a short time to try it out and could forget for a bit what homes they belong to and roleplay all as ONE city, of course not one already in use as it is an experiment. Vote three men in charge & the rest of us obey the set rules & go for it, no holds barred, and no running from the scariness of the situation. It's a good idea, but I honestly doubt it would happen.”
I replied, “Further to what Àirlia talked of. Aneesha raised this idea some years ago and We had a discussion in Helisto this evening and the consensus was that a combined Gor room that A/all in Gor attended twice a month and in which A/all played T/their roles - initially at least without an HoC or even a location on Gor - would be an initiative worth exploring, What do O/others think of that idea??”
Penelope then responded, “Regarding Your suggestion, would the "one size fits all” room be a hold, village, city? Mainland or island? Advanced or not so much in technology? Castes or no castes? And when Ya say everyone would practice their caste, what happens if ALL get together and half just sit about? Is there a penalty or learning ops available? If there is no governmental system, who would enforce order? (Respectfully queried) ~ Penelope Z”
I've moved this discussion to a new thread .....
I suggest we base this home in Rarir, which is a small village on the Thassa about a hundred pasang north of Brundisium and 200 pasang south west of the Thassa Cartius that gives access to the Vosk. So it’s well situated geographically for roleplay purposes. It’s quite a cosmopolitan and ‘advanced’ village, having a small harbour and being close to trade routes.
The Free who enter that room are the Warriors, Builders, Scribes, Physicians, Merchants etc. of that home and their slaves remain their slaves. Initially, at least, there’s no need for an “HoC”, it would more likely be a “Head Man” anyway and he can be referred to ‘obliquely’ ... “I’ll raise that with the Head Man”. If this idea seems to be working and is well supported then some kind of election can be held. There’s no need for anybody to change their Buzzen name for the days this home will open, though it might be fun to do so.
Of course there will be differences in outlook between the “mixed bag” of Free that come together there, but I’d hope some leeway and common sense would prevail. As to “harshness”, well, let’s see how that works out.
Initially this room could open every other week and then see how it goes. For it to work I think we’ll need most, if not all, of the homes to participate as there are few enough of us as it is!

It's good to see so many responses and a generally favourable reaction to this idea. Thanks to everybody! I still don't think a "Council" is needed initially, as the rule is that everybody that enters that room will be a member of that Home for role play purposes. So Free and slaves interact together as citizens of that Home and work in its best interests. It will be a User Created room with Room Name, Room Topic and Room Welcome pre-agreed so anyone can open the room at any time ... cont ...
We will concentrate on role play in the home and its surroundings. I would suggest creating a Buzzen blog where events in the Home can be posted after each ‘session’ to develop a ‘historical narrative’ so its citizens, in subsequent role play, have something to build on. Let’s just try it out and see how it goes. We just need a name and location for the Home, I’d still prefer a place that featured in the Books, and a day when we start. We won’t need a time as it can open at any time.
Reading through all this, I agree that there doesn't seem to be a need for a council though there seems to be a general push for it. I also don't feel that we need to be members of that "home" to role play. Most of us have homes already, but it's not to say we couldn't interact still and there couldn't be some great role play to come of it.
My reason for saying that "everybody that enters that room will be a member of that Home for role play purposes" is that otherwise, as we will all have our "normal" Gorean names, it will be hard to tell who is a member of "Gortopia" and who is a visitor! It just simplifies matters and would encourage, I hope, mutual respect and a sense of "community".
I think the sense of mutual respect and trying to bring people together is a decent idea, but we've all been here together in Buzzen for a long time and lots don't like each other or respect each other etc. Gorland sounds like a good idea on paper, but I think it will go the way of World of Gor. I've been wrong a lot lately though, maybe I'll be surprised by this.
I agree with Thiery. Respect and community is important, but I don't see a need to be a "member" when what we all really want is just to role play and interact in a way more meaningful than sitting around a hall gabbing it up. Aside from asking those who are brand new to observe, it should be a room that is open to all. I do think the blog is a good idea so we can keep up on storylines created there, but I really think we're all visitors in a sense. I have a Home Stone already.
Wamph's storyline for the mines of Argentum and then from there has been a lot of fun. Stuff like that, other people doing things would be nice to see
So I went traveling the other night, and it was the same as all other homes. I entered, did a great role play entrance, and it was as always people sitting waiting for me to come to them instead of approaching a wagon coming into the camp. I find it the same old same old. What happened to the thrill of Gor? If I am a stranger in a room, why not try and capture me or spook me some to get the feel of being a stranger? Its like a *Kumbyya* approach. Everyone is so welcoming and so nice. ....
I went back to Mirc the other night and it had a little bit more of a thrilling affect until the normal group came in and went back to talking and no role play. So of course I left. I hope this room that you all wish to develop has a bit of excitement in the role play. I will honor what r/p is out there and play it as it is. I'm not sure to make it thrilling by myself, but I sure can figure out a bit of something....anyone have ideas?
After all the Gorean word for stranger is the same as enemy.... :D
Naked free women may work
exactly Kyna. And NO Thiery! There are enough naked slaves around gor to give you a thrill, Thiery. I bet there is a bit more imagination inside the warrior brain of yours, unless ermm, got smacked by a shield or sword or axe too many times. I liked the r/p Wamph put together in the silver mines. There has to be more creative minds in the words someplace. Anyone?
I have more imagination than you can possibly....imagine....
excellent, Thiery. I look forward in seeing a sample or two of that imagination. *holds out my palm flat, fingers curling inward then outward several times indicating..." Just Bring It!!! *laughs*
You're fc'd. You had your chance.
ok wait a second. no one told me that being FC'd makes a person a dead fish. Good to know!!
How's that going, by the way? Being fc'd?
I used to be so nervous when I went into a gorean home. Now when I visit I don't really put forth the creative effort because why bother no one sees you anyway. That is how the person behind the screen feels. It is so heartbreaking and something that at the end of the day I do not ever see changing.
So, I posted a comment previously that basically was a slam on the idea, based off the fact that there is so much infighting and drama about Gor right now, and has been for years. However, after some thought and a couple conversations, here is my actual thoughts... I will start with the not so great ones. 1. The drama that plagues Gor is going to be an issue. Regardless of who says what, there are so many of us that have grown a hatred for each other, that it's going to spill over into this room
2/?) I suppose that it can be, and will be overcome in time, if this concept works, however, it will take restraint, time and patience. Okay, now that the negative is out of the way, here are some positives! 1. Quite personally, if we can get over our differences, I would love to role play with more of my fellow Goreans! This would breed the one thing I think could make this community what it once was years and years ago. I am not going to say old Gor or new Gor, it was Gor, and that's it.
