An occasional “One Size Fits All” Gorean Home?

In Bianciella’s “Gorean Harshness” blog, Àirlia raised the suggestion:

“I wonder... if just maybe... all of us Goreans who want to enjoy realistic Gorean Roleplay, harshness and all could agree to just for a short time to try it out and could forget for a bit what homes they belong to and roleplay all as ONE city, of course not one already in use as it is an experiment. Vote three men in charge & the rest of us obey the set rules & go for it, no holds barred, and no running from the scariness of the situation. It's a good idea, but I honestly doubt it would happen.”

I replied, “Further to what Àirlia talked of. Aneesha raised this idea some years ago and We had a discussion in Helisto this evening and the consensus was that a combined Gor room that A/all in Gor attended twice a month and in which A/all played T/their roles - initially at least without an HoC or even a location on Gor - would be an initiative worth exploring, What do O/others think of that idea??”

Penelope then responded, “Regarding Your suggestion, would the "one size fits all” room be a hold, village, city? Mainland or island? Advanced or not so much in technology? Castes or no castes? And when Ya say everyone would practice their caste, what happens if ALL get together and half just sit about? Is there a penalty or learning ops available? If there is no governmental system, who would enforce order? (Respectfully queried) ~ Penelope Z”

I've moved this discussion to a new thread .....

I suggest we base this home in Rarir, which is a small village on the Thassa about a hundred pasang north of Brundisium and 200 pasang south west of the Thassa Cartius that gives access to the Vosk. So it’s well situated geographically for roleplay purposes. It’s quite a cosmopolitan and ‘advanced’ village, having a small harbour and being close to trade routes.

The Free who enter that room are the Warriors, Builders, Scribes, Physicians, Merchants etc. of that home and their slaves remain their slaves. Initially, at least, there’s no need for an “HoC”, it would more likely be a “Head Man” anyway and he can be referred to ‘obliquely’ ... “I’ll raise that with the Head Man”. If this idea seems to be working and is well supported then some kind of election can be held. There’s no need for anybody to change their Buzzen name for the days this home will open, though it might be fun to do so.

Of course there will be differences in outlook between the “mixed bag” of Free that come together there, but I’d hope some leeway and common sense would prevail. As to “harshness”, well, let’s see how that works out.

Initially this room could open every other week and then see how it goes. For it to work I think we’ll need most, if not all, of the homes to participate as there are few enough of us as it is!

Comments please.

3/? 2. It would give us a chance to get a better understanding of each other and would probably help teach old and new Goreans alike. For the old guard, maybe some new ideas for role play. For the new Goreans, it would show how we shine when we role play. Teach a flow, customs, courtesies, and of course, respect for the danger and a taste of the excitement that we all once loved. 3. Personally, I feel that when it's all said and done, if it works out, it will be a "revival" of Gor, of sorts.

4/? That all being said, I will not be giving up the home that I have worked hard to make what it once was, and what it will be again. So, "Occasional" is the operative word here. I am not alone in this thought, and I feel that we should keep this to a minimal, so to speak. Once, twice a week or month? Make it on night that are generally busy, to make the most of it. And finally, if it is something that we go forward with, I will personally pay for the BSR.

5/5 My reason for this, is that I feel that one more piece of this to be taken into account is that the "One Gor" room, so to speak, should be open all the time, so when it is slow, mostly during the week nights for us on the western side of the pond, we have a place to go to continue or start a new role play. In short, my final thought on this is that it could work, with a little bit of dialogue between -everyone-, free and slave alike, and a lot of putting differences aside.

People actively playing their castes would be a great place to start for showing newer people the caste systems and structure. For example. Shainaa bakes pastries. Penelope purchases said pastries and sells for a profit. Random eats pastries and gets fat, physician performs Lyposuction. Slave tends to mending random ... You get the idea. Warriors sparring, fighting for slaves, following the codes. RP is everywhere and it isn't that difficult to start or find. (Reposted due to thread hijack)

Nobody gives up their home and thank you Bart for your input and generous offer. There is no reason why this proposed new home cannot be challenging and express the differing views of how Gor should be from all those that roleplay there. But it's roleplay, with mutual respect for A/all, that really matters here. I return to My initial post and ask if we can do it this way? A home that exists in the Books in an interesting geographical location that we as a "home" can incorporate in our roleplay?

Talarius, in short, the answer is more than likely "No"

The musician is in the background at all times providing a soundtrack for the RP?

From someone completely outside of the GOR lifestyle, I see a lot of conflict in the blog section. Instead of trying to unite everyone into one room in the lifestyle you may want to consider a neutral room in which the GOR lifestyle on Buzzen can be discussed outside of it's roleplay. Where issues can be discussed openly by all. Including anyone new to GOR or who are considering becoming part of GOR. Again I am completely outside of this and mostly ignorant to it. Just giving a suggestion.

We at Buzzen respect the GOR lifestyle and appreciate any who make us their Chat home. If there is anything as staff we can do to help please let us know.

I would love to see this so all homes that are willing to work together can discuss matters

My Two Cents Worth
It is a an Idea that has ben tried B4 with some results however what will this Room be zoned , If it is safe zoned all element of excitement will be gone , Can Melee happen in this room? Can Your Charictor be Killed ? and If so will every one Honor what could Happen ? Can you Beat an erroneous slave? or will you have to go by slaves profile (if you have a problem with slave take it to Master such and such) what will be allowed ? Lions, Tigers, and bears?

If there's going to be a zone, I think it should be a "Sanctioned Zone", with rules set down in digital black and white (or colors of your choice, but NOT pink.) for what is and is not allowed, and use a group of people familiar with combat rules if any are needed, general behavior (it isn't civilized to take a dump in public, or troll enslaved wimmen's whisper options), and other such trivialities.

I have no problem with a place like this existing, So long as it isn't mandatory.
